Who We Are
Amelia’s offers local produce, house-made specialties, and goods from small, conscientious producers. We aim to minimize the distance between food makers and food lovers.
Hi! We’re Aaron and Andrea. We’ve lived in the Geary neighbourhood for seven years, and the seed of Amelia’s was born from a simple observation: there was nowhere nearby to buy an onion. To fix this, we imagined an old-fashioned mom-and-pop grocery where neighbourhood folks could pick up fruits and veg, local products, and tasty treats, and over the years we entertained ourselves dreaming up all the wonderful things we could do with a market of our own. In the spring of 2024, with a baby on the way (that’s Amelia!), we decided the time was finally right. We’re thrilled to be a small part of the vibrant Geary tapestry and to welcome you to our store.
Aaron has been working in restaurants since he was 14, including most recently as chef at Archive. He still considers it the best wine bar in the city, thanks to owner Josh Corea’s passion for and commitment to making wine accessible. Its a passion Aaron intends to carry over to the grocery world. A dedicated at-home baker / fermenter / brewer / experimenter, he brings joy and curiosity to all his creations. (Fair warning: if you get him talking about the best ways of preserving plums, you may want an exit strategy.)
Andrea follows a long line of artisans and craftspeople in her family, the majority of whom hail from Nova Scotia. She worked at Bellwoods Brewery for years while exploring different crafts and volunteering for the Toronto Wildlife Centre, where she developed a passion for animal care. She is now Operating Manager at the Animal Hospital of High Park.
Amelia is our baby and we wouldn’t have been able to do this without her.
